Carrie Haughawout joined the Ohio Department of Insurance in January of 2011 as Assistant Director of Health Policy to lead the ongoing policy development and implementation of health care legislation. In January of 2014 she was elevated to the position of Assistant Director of Policy and Product Coordination. In addition to her health policy role, Haughawout oversees departmental policy development and the product regulation and actuarial services area. Haughawout is responsible for analyzing and advising on state and national policy issues, aligning product approval with department policy, and assisting in prioritizing the Department’s legislative goals.
Haughawout previously worked at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce as the Director of Health Care and Small Business Council. In that role, Haughawout managed the activities of the Chamber’s small business arm, worked to educate legislators about health care and how it impacted businesses and promoted a free market approach to health care reform.
Haughawout has held various positions with the Ohio House of Representatives. She worked closely with former representatives Jim Aslanides and Shawn Webster. Haughawout also worked on agriculture, energy, environmental, development and higher education policy for former Speakers of the House.
