Carrie Haughawout joined the Ohio Department of Insurance in January of 2011 as Assistant Director of Health Policy. Haughawout analyzes state and national health policy issues, studies the implementation of health care legislation, and assists in prioritizing the Department’s legislative goals. 

Haughawout previously worked at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce as the Director of Health Care and Small Business Council. In that role, Haughawout worked to educate legislators about health care and how it impacted businesses and promoted a free market approach to health care reform that was good for Ohio businesses.  

Haughawout has held various positions with the Ohio House of Representatives. She worked closely with former representatives Jim Aslanides and Shawn Webster. Haughawout also worked on agriculture, energy, environmental, development and higher education policy for former Speaker of the House Larry Householder and former Speaker of the House Jon Husted.
