Lieutenant Governor Taylor Revokes Amelia Insurance Agent’s License

COLUMBUS Ohio Lieutenant Governor and Department of Insurance Director Mary Taylor revoked the resident insurance agent license of James K. Winkelman, of Amelia, Ohio, for violations of Ohio insurance law.

A Department review revealed that in 2010, Winkelman was issued a cease and desist order by the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Securities, and the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation for unlicensed or unregistered activities. Ohio insurance law allows the Director to revoke an agent’s Ohio insurance license for having been subject to a cease and desist order for unlicensed or unregistered activities.

Winkelman’s resident insurance agent license was revoked June 27, 2011.

The Department operates the Take Action: Protect Yourself from Fraud initiative that educates consumers about insurance and investment fraud.  Ohioans can visit www.takeaction.ohio.gov to read the Take Action Consumer Guide, and to stay informed on the latest fraud news and alerts.

Consumers with specific insurance questions and complaints can call the Department’s consumer hotline at 1-800-686-1526. Ohioans who believe an agent is committing fraud should call the Department’s fraud hotline, 1-800-686-1527.  Information about agent fraud and misconduct can be found on the Department’s web site, www.insurance.ohio.gov.
