Press Release - June 9, 2011

Lieutenant Governor Taylor Accepts Surrender of Columbus Title Agency’s License

COLUMBUS Ohio Lieutenant Governor and Department of Insurance Director Mary Taylor accepted the surrender of the resident title insurance agency license of New Horizons Land Title LLC, of Columbus, Ohio, for violations of Ohio insurance law.

A Department investigation revealed that New Horizons Land Title LLC failed to file an annual review of its escrow accounts. Ohio insurance law requires title agencies to have their escrow accounts annually audited and filed with the Department. The law also provides the Director authority to revoke a license for violating or failing to comply with any insurance law.

New Horizons Land Title’s resident insurance agency license was surrendered effective May 16, 2011.

The Department operates the Take Action: Protect Yourself from Fraud initiative that educates consumers about insurance and investment fraud.  Ohioans can visit www.takeaction.ohio.gov to read the Take Action Consumer Guide, and to stay informed on the latest fraud news and alerts.

Consumers with specific insurance questions and complaints can call the Department’s consumer hotline at 1-800-686-1526. Ohioans who believe an agent is committing fraud should call the Department’s fraud hotline, 1-800-686-1527.  Information about agent fraud and misconduct can be found on the Department’s web site, www.insurance.ohio.gov.
