COLUMBUS — Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor announced that Ohio licensed dentist Lana Redford was sentenced in the Geauga County Court of Common Pleas on April 27 to serve 30 days in jail with work-release privileges for misdemeanor theft and pay $8,426.67 in restitution to an insurance company.
A Department investigation revealed that Redford falsely claimed she was physically disabled while operating her Bainbridge, Ohio dental practice and receiving disability benefits.
“Disability insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” said Taylor, also Director of the Ohio Department of Insurance. “The Department aggressively pursues the individuals committing fraud because they drive up the cost of insurance for all Ohioans.”
Ohioans who suspect insurance fraud or professional misconduct should call the Department’s fraud hotline at 800-686-1527. Insurance fraud information is available at www.insurance.ohio.gov.
