Taylor Announces Ohio Department of Insurance to Hold “Welcome to Medicare” Events across Ohio

COLUMBUS – Lieutenant Governor and Ohio Department of Insurance Director Mary Taylor announced the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP), the state’s official source for free and unbiased Medicare information and counseling, will hold “Welcome to Medicare” events in 17 counties running April through May.  The events will help new and soon-to-be beneficiaries understand the basics of Medicare.

“Our events can help Ohioans transitioning into Medicare better understand how the program works,” Taylor said.  “In 2012 we saved consumers $5.5 million by helping them identify the coverage best suited for their needs.”

At the events, people can learn about the important deadlines and benefits Medicare provides, Medicare Advantage plans, supplemental health insurance, and prescription drug coverage.  There will also be information regarding financial assistance programs that help pay for Medicare’s Part B premium and out-of-pocket expenses associated with prescription drug costs.
