COLUMBUS — Ohio Lieutenant Governor and Department of Insurance Director Mary Taylor named Carrie Haughawout Assistant Director for Health Policy. She will work in the Department’s Policy and Legislative Division.
In her new role, Haughawout will analyze state and national health policy issues, implement health reform legislation, and assist in prioritizing the Department’s legislative goals.
“A strong background in healthcare related issues makes Carrie a valuable asset in dealing with health insurance legislation,” said Taylor. “We are happy to have her on our team. She will be instrumental in shaping the future of healthcare insurance in the state of Ohio.”
Haughawout previously worked at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce as the Director of the Ohio Small Business Council. During her tenure at the Ohio Chamber, Haughawout worked to educate legislators about healthcare and how it impacted businesses and promoted a free market approach to health care reform that was good for Ohio businesses.
Prior to joining the Ohio Chamber, Haughawout worked in various positions with the Ohio House of Representatives. She worked closely with former representatives Jim Aslanides, and Shawn Webster. She also worked on agriculture, energy, environmental, development and higher education policy for former Speaker of the House Larry Householder and former Speaker of the House Jon Husted.
A native of Colorado, Haughawout is an avid skier and golfer. She was a member of the golf team at the University of Dayton, her alma mater.
Carrie and her husband Zach reside in Dublin with their daughter.
