Mental Health Parity Toolkit

New Ohio law requires that Ohioans who suffer from biologically-based mental illness can now secure the appropriate insurance coverage on the same level as other health benefits. As the state agency that approves mental health benefit product filings and monitors the insurance marketplace, the Ohio Department of Insurance has created this helpful on-line toolkit. Its purpose is to ensure consumers and stakeholders understand how health benefit plans are to provide benefits for biologically-based mental illness.

For questions regarding general health insurance and for specific questions regarding coverage, Ohio residents may contact the Consumer Services Division of the Ohio Department of Insurance at 1-800-686-1526. Companies with questions regarding coverage under the law may contact the Life and Health Division of the Ohio Department of Insurance at 614-644-2644. For questions regarding specific insurance coverage, insureds/enrollees should contact their respective insurance companies or HICs. Employees covered under self-funded plans should contact their employers or plan administrators.
