The Department of Insurance issues limited authority licenses to individuals for the following lines of insurance:
- Car Rental Insurance
- Credit Insurance Products
- Crop
- Travel Insurance
- Funeral Expense (Must be a Licensed Funeral Director)
- Portable Electronics
Initial Individual Limited Authority Applications (Application Fees)
Limited Authority applicants are not required to complete any pre-licensing education or examination. An appointment is not required at time of application, but is required in order to sell, solicit, or negotiate policies/information for a company.
Renewal Individual Limited Authority Applications (Application Fees)
All limited lines authority licenses renew biennially based upon the agents birth month and year of licensure. The Department of Insurance will send a renewal notice at least 30 days prior to the license expiration. If ODI does not receive a renewal response from the agent by the due date on the notice, the limited authority license will be suspended for failure to renew. Persons holding a limited authority license are exempt from continuing education requirements.
